It’s fast-paced and leaves just enough up to interpretation to be worth studying. Her strong will to keep things monotonous leads to a final showdown with the free spirited “McMurphy” in what is easily one of the most shocking and disturbing climaxes in recent memory.

That was how it was sold to me. I think Kesey might have had good intentions with this novel that bido just carried out very badly. When Sorensen, the Swede, gets talking, I cucoo had to smile, even though he does sound more like a Norwegian. However, mental illness isn’t something you can just rebel your way out of: I understand this book was written decades ago, but instead of coming off vintage and pulpy to me, it was grating to me.


Still giving it 2 stars instead nico 1 because of the imagery, but damn, I really don’t understand the high ratings for this book. I honestly don’t understand the value, I’d appreciate it if someone would explain it to me.

Well, some rejects in an insane asylum somewhere don’t feel self-actualized! I did appreciate how the protagonist, MacMurphy, upsets the strict, soul-gutting culture of the ward imposed by the head nurse.

But it is interesting that the system is represented by white women alguuen their helpers black men and there is not one algyien, male villain in the piece, despite white men being the main beneficiaries of what the ‘Combine’ has to offer.
