I would teach this story to my students because it would give them the incentive not to be afraid of living in a new place, and that even though it might not turn out like it was expected to, one can still have a good life.

Once again if you dig deeper into a line of the book you can gain many life lessons. A life lesson that I gained is when you least clfer it people will be looking out for you. Ortiz Cofer’s autobiographical work often focuses on her attempts at negotiating her life between two cultures, American and Puerto Rican, and how this process informs her sensibilities as a writer. As a result, he never felt at home in Puerto Rico and became depressed. As she struggles to lose judit island accent, Maria does her best to find her place within the unfamiliar culture of the barrio.

I would give this book 3 stars from 5 because it get boring with because she keep repeating the same thing over and over, but what gives it a 3 is that it has small interesting poems describing what’s happening around her. This happened throughout the whole book. I’ve studied Spanish, so it was ortix problem for me.
