Bookaholic-ness: Book Review: Sunlight and Shadow by Cameron Dokey.

I think I am beginning to tire of this author’s style a little or the set up of this series. This book really makes me think about my life and they blessings that i have been granted in all my life time.

See 1 doeky about Sunlight and Shadow…. As with other Once Upon a Time books, this was an interesting take on this story. Other editions – View all Sunlight and Shadow: I feel for him more than almost anyone else in the book.

The story is full of the thoughts and emotions of many of the different characters and gives you the opportunity to see different points of view by alternating view points from time to time.

It was during this quest that Prince Tern found out that sokey flute he carved out was magical which goes by the title of the original story: This is the worst thing about hell, I thought. I liked the storyline and the characters were interesting.

Pamina — who thinks of herself as Mina — has learned not to trust her father very much, knowing that one day she is to go and live with him on her sixteenth birthday, and that he will one day chose a husband for her, a situation that she dreads. Sarastro is no longer a benevolent but stern priest of the Sun, but a bad tempered, controlling patriarch of the most vile sort, Lapin is turned into a mere accessory and looses his vital part in the final quest, we don’t get to see the Three Ladies, the Three Spirits or the Dragon, and in sort, what was left behind was a mere whisp of the original story.

Maybe this is truly the story of The Magic Flute- it’s one I’m not entirely familiar with- but I just didn’t think the story really I might get some hate mail for this but I really had a hard time with this book. The viewpoint changes from one character to another throughout the book although I think most of it is told by Mina. A Cruel Beauty Novella. I enjoyed the book and recommend it. About half of the book is a just a series of histories of the characters to put up a picture of how things came about.


I thought this was an interesting story. It’s got all the magic, love and drama you could want in a fairytale-like story.

I do like this line from the end, “But I think the truth is that neither Tern nor I needs a fixed cameroon, as other people do, for the true place of each is in the heart of the other. Lord Sarastro’s soldiers find Mina and Tern, take them to the grove where Snlight and Mina are to be married, Tern and Mina agree to prove their worthiness by going through the trials of hell, triumph, and the Queen of the Night shows up.
